William B. Holmes, Jr. is currently Associate Director, Economic Inclusion & Supplier Diversity for Merck. His responsibilities include proactively engaging with sourcing managers and category leaders to drive the inclusion, development, and implementation of supplier diversity sourcing strategies. He also seeks to identify and help develop small and diverse suppliers that have the potential to meet Merck’s needs and requirements.
William has worked at Merck since 2001 in various Finance and IT support roles before joining Global Procurement’s Strategy & Planning organization in 2010. As an Associate Program Leader for Indirect Procurement, he was primarily focused on project tracking and management reporting. He then took on a Sr. Analyst role in Supplier Diversity in 2011 where his responsibilities included reporting and analytics, internal training, small and diverse supplier engagement, and systems support. After three years, he left Supplier Diversity to increase his Procurement sourcing and process expertise, taking on roles for the next three years as a Sourcing Manager for Lab Supplies & Equipment Procurement, and then IT Services Procurement. In these roles, William was responsible for developing, managing and ensuring compliance to category strategies and leading sourcing projects. His passion for creating opportunities for small and diverse owned businesses is what led him back to Supplier Diversity in his current role.
William holds a BS in Mathematics from Virginia Union University in Richmond, VA.
